On 7 December 2010, Barry Sheerman met with student ambassadors from Kirklees to discuss the Government’s plans to cut or reduce funding to School Sports Partnerships. The young students travelled from Huddersfield to attend a large student protest in Westminster. Students presented a 500,000 strong petition to 10 Downing during their trip. Their hope is to display the widespread support for this program in order to sway the Government’s decision regarding the impending funding cuts.
Barry Sheerman is fully dedicated to the campaign to save School Sports Partnerships and is especially proud of the work done by students, parents, and faculty in Kirklees in response to the Government.
Mr. Sheerman strongly believes in the impact of school sports on youth’s confidence, teamwork skills, and improvement of quality of life. He believes that School Sports Partnerships are an integral part of education and is committed to doing his part in this fight to save School Sports Partnerships in Huddersfield and throughout the United Kingdom.
