Barry Sheerman asked a question to the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Defence, Peter Luff, concerning policies on independent and direct offset agreements. Â
"What his policy is on the use of independent and direct offset agreements in defence contracts."
Luff responded the Ministry of Defence does not have offset agreements in defence contracts. However, they do invite prospective suppliers to propose how they would work with UK companies in support of a contract placed overseas.
Barry urged Luff to look further into offset agreements. He argued countries can use offset to stimulate investment in environmental technologies, and asked Luff to meet with a group who have been discussing the issue.
